Sossaman Farms was founded in 1917 by James and Nancy Sossaman. James was a Veteran of the U.S. Civil War but died in 1918 of the Great Flu Pandemic before he could realize his dream
Granted homestead status in 1919, Nancy and her youngest son Jasper a Veteran of WWI (USN) helped tend to the farm growing cotton, potatoes, grains, vegetables and other commodities to support the local community (especially during the Great Depression and WWII).
In 1956, Jasper’s only son Jamie, took over the farm after his wartime service as a pilot in the Korean War (USN).
In 1985, Jamie’ oldest son Steve took over the farm, (a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force) and continues to run it today growing alfalfa and Ancient Grain’s which conserves water and is sustainable for future generations of farmers
Homestead Malting Company will be located adjacent to Grain R & D on the 104-year-old Sossaman Homestead in Queen Creek, Arizona, and leverage Sossaman Farms and other local farmers to grain wheat and barley for beer and spirits. Homestead Malt will collaborate with Grain R & D for grain processing, cleaning, storing, and bagging of the final product and add value by complimenting Sossaman Farms, Grain R & D, and their partners as another link in the vertical integration chain using Best Agri-Business Practices in the process.
We will provide an elegant solution to a known supply chain problem in that our “Ground to Glass” concept means that we and our local partners will grow a low water, historically sustainable product, clean and process it, malt it, and then deliver this world class product in a consistent and timely manner thereby removing supply chain uncertainty and enhancing consumer experience. We will continue to contribute to the surrounding communities as we have done for the last 104 years and as a resource for future endeavors such as this one (Regional Collaboration Best Practice Model).
